ABOUT THE PROGRAMS:
Hawaii Theatre
Young Actors Ensemble
(open to high school age students) is a pre-professional training
program for students who are serious about learning classical acting; this
is not a drama club. The program is led by HTC education director and
Po‘okela Award-winning actress Eden-Lee Murray. Students meet twice a
week after school to learn acting, voice and movement technique, and to
rehearse and perform a full Shakespeare production at the Hawaii Theatre in
spring, 2012. The program includes master classes with top local theatre
professionals. For the audition, students should prepare a monologue between
1 and 2 minutes long from any published play. They also should bring contact
information for a teacher or director with whom they have recently worked.

This year’s talented troupe of high school actors from
across O`ahu takes on the challenge of Shakespeare’s terrifying tale of
black magic and betrayal. Egged on by the success promised by a trio of
witches, (Shakespeare’s “weird sisters”), Lord and Lady Macbeth push each
other to murderous lengths to advance their “vaulting ambition.” Once the
act of regicide has promoted them to King and Queen of Scotland, their guilt
acts as acid upon their consciences, poisoning their sleep, provoking
hallucinations, and ultimately destroying them. “Fair is foul and foul is
fair” is a message that echoes through the play, warning that appearances
can be deceiving—that which appears good on the surface is not necessarily
to be trusted. The roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are among the richest
in all of Shakespeare’s plays, and have been attempted by some of the best
actors the world has known. Come see our young players bring them to life.
The gifted musicians of Serotonin Ronin, in association with Icaro Psyche Collective, are creating an original soundscape for this unique interpretation.
