Join Hawaii Opera Theatre (HOT) for Beebe Freitas – A Celebration, to be held on March 17, 2019 (4:00pm), at the historic Hawaii Theatre Center.
This benefit concert for the company features performances by:
Erik Haines, Malia Ka’ai-Barrett, Maya Hoover, Jamie Offenbach, Takamasa Yamamura, Kari Magaruh, Leslie “Buz” Tennent, Sarah Lambert Connelly, Leslie Goldman, Jacqueline, Quirk, Les Ceballos, Renson Madarang, Ryan Souza, Blythe Kelsey, Kip Wilborn, John Mount, Laurence Paxton, Lea Woods Almanza, and Leon Williams. They will be joined by by members and alumni of the HOT Chorus and Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus. The evening will be emceed by Keoki Kerr and will feature Benjamin Makino, piano, and Nola Nahulu, choir director and conductor.
One of Hawaii’s beloved music icons and HOT’s long-time head of music, Freitas passed away on February 17, 2018. Having worked with thousands of performers privately and on stage for more than five decades, she is best known in Hawaii for rehearsing and coaching soloists and choruses as HOT’s long-time head of music. Freitas was also the lead organist at both First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu and Punahou School for more than 40 years.
For her work, Freitas earned numerous awards including:
- 2014 Dale R. Noble Award (Oahu Choral Society)
- 2005 Alfred Preis Award (Hawaii Arts Alliance)
- 2003 Living Treasures of Hawaii (Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii)
- 2002 Roselani Medallion (National Society of Arts and Letters, Honolulu Chapter)
Price of admission to this event will be $25 for General Admission and $50 for Premium Seating. A limited number of add-on tickets to a special reception will also be available for $25. A $5.00 theatre restoration fee and a convenience fee are applied to all ticket purchases. In addition, a $4.50 ticketing fee will also apply.
