IMAGINOCEAN, the hit family musical adventure created by Emmy and Tony Award nominated John Tartaglia, is lifting anchor and swimming to the historic Hawaii Theatre for an 8-show run, December 18-23, 2012.
John Tartaglia’s IMAGINOCEAN takes audiences on a one-hour magical underwater journey full of surprises and special effects. The seafaring stars; Dorsel, Tank and Bubbles; open an enchanted world of aquatic adventures where they meet jiving jellyfish, a strong-willed seahorse and a new friend, lovable Leonard the Octopus. John Tartaglia’s IMAGINOCEAN is a blast from the first big splash to the last wave goodbye.
“It’s a perfect musical for the entire family,” said Tartaglia. “It has a wonderful story, an amazing score and great humor. We’ve created a theatrical experience that’s a perfect first show for kids, and the spectacular production will certainly capture the imagination of all ages.” Producer Philip Katz noted, “The show has grown into a wonderful family experience. John’s sense of wonder and magic are all over the production.”
Hawaii Theatre artistic director and general manager, Burton White, noted “I was so happy that I could convince Dorsel, Tank and Bubbles to swim by the historic Hawaii Theatre on their way to visit friends in Australia. This show highlights not only musical theatre, black-light and the craft of puppetry; but also the world of the ocean that surrounds our island home, courage, imagination, strength, and the important treasure of friendship. I can’t think of a better family show to celebrate the historic Hawaii Theatre’s HAWAII NINE-O anniversary season. We’re especially happy to be offering a study guide for parents and affordable pricing for the kids so the whole family can join us during the holiday break.”
A one-of-a-kind live black-light puppet show, John Tartaglia’s IMAGINOCEAN is a magical undersea adventure for kids of all ages. Tank, Bubbles and Dorsel are three best friends who just happen to be fish, and they’re about to set out on a remarkable journey of discovery. And it all starts with a treasure map. As they swim off in search of clues, they’ll sing, they’ll dance, and they’ll make new friends, including everyone in the audience. Ultimately they discover the greatest treasure of all: friendship. Jam-packed with music ranging from swing to R&B to Big Band.
IMAGINOCEAN is the latest brainchild of John Tartaglia, creator, executive producer and star of the Emmy Award nominated Johnny and the Sprites (now airing worldwide). Earning a Tony Award nomination for his performance in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Avenue Q, for which he originated the roles of “Princeton” and “Rod,” Tartaglia was most recently seen on Broadway appearing as “Pinocchio” in Shrek The Musical and previously starred as “Lumiere” in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. A 10-year veteran of Sesame Street, Tartaglia is one of the youngest puppeteers ever to perform on the show, starting at the age of 16.
Veteran director and choreographer, Donna Drake, directs the cast of puppeteers who blend themselves seamlessly into the black light ocean floor, setting the stage afloat. The production features: a lively original score with music and lyrics by composer William Wade, adorable characters that light up the stage with their effervescent color and personalities designed and built by the innovative artists at The Puppet Kitchen in New York City, and brilliantly colored sets that create the framework for this magical undersea journey designed by set designer Robert Kovach.
