From his beginnings as the “slack-key kid,” to performing for Presidents and writing movie soundtracks, MAKANA has delivered his “slack rock” style with energy, wit, and virtuosity. With six albums to his credit, MAKANA delivers sizzling showmanship, engaging the audience with a one-of-a-kind concert (sold-out at the Kahilu in 2014!).
MAKANA received a grant in the ‘80s from the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to study under Hawaiian slack key legend Sonny Chillingworth. By the age of 15, he had already turned professional, gigging 4 nights a week in various establishments throughout Honolulu. This concert is a Tribute that MAKANA has long intended to create for his Kumu. Sonny Chillingworth was one of the most influential slack key guitarists in history. He played with Gabby Pahinui for years, and released “Waimea Cowboy” in the ‘60s, which went Gold. Special guests include Leabert Lindsey and Nina Kealiiwahamana.
VIP PACKAGE: Includes VIP seating, parking, drink, and 1 cd.
