Starring Yul Brynner in his iconic Academy Award-winning role alongside Deborah Kerr, this lavish 1956 film adaptation brings unforgettable songs like “Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance?” and “Something Wonderful” to life on the big screen. Winner of five Academy Awards, ‘The King and I’ remains one of the most celebrated movie musicals of all time. Join us for an enchanting morning of classic cinema in one of Hawaii’s most treasured landmarks. Please note that there will be a short intermission about halfway through the film along with an overture at the beginning. The Hawaii Theatre and the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation are offering the community a film series to provide seniors and other cinema lovers an opportunity to enjoy a morning of camaraderie with coffee, snacks, and a classic movie. Over the course of the year, we’ll present this series and offer tickets on a “pay what you can” basis. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. so patrons can enjoy complimentary pastries from Zippys and coffee from Pōʻai by Pono Potions. Showtime is 11:30 AM.
